How do the Google Panda Algorithms work?

The Google Panda algorithm is a heuristic algorithm i.e; it scans a large data set and looks for specific types of solutions to questions or problems. What may be revolutionary about the Panda algorithm (I believe) is that (I think) it seeks to eliminate or bypass unnecessary comparisons. The computations, thus reducing the overall number of calculations required to find the best match for a specific desired solution.

What Google needed to do was develop a set of ranking signals and/or weights that would help them separate Websites into “High Quality” and “Low Quality” sites. The Quality Rater Survey was apparently used to divide a pool of secretly selected Websites into such a segregated plane. The Google engineers then turned Panda loose on their immense volumes of data about Websites with the goal of finding the best grouping of signals and weighted values for those signals that would produce the closest match to the quality raters’ collective choices.

Through the many public iterations, Google appears to have been changing the pool of Websites that are used to determine what mix of signals and weights should be used to determine a Web (page/site)’s Panda score. This score is probably added to the PageRank.

Hence, your “Panda score” is assign to individual pages, and cumulatively enough pages on your website. Your Website may be  “drag down” the rest of your site, a possible scenario that Googlers acknowledge.

What is the Effect of Panda Update on SEO?

Publishing content just for the heck of traffic is not a good idea. This is the main reason why Google made the update because a lot of sites take a lot of content just for them to attract more visitors from the search engines to go to their site and give some impressions and clicks to the ads.

They don’t really care about the quality of the content as much as the traffic they are getting from it. We have to always keep in mind that people want real, useful, quality content and Google is just trying its best to deliver us that which we desire.

You should be more mindful of the things that you publish. Make sure it’s unique, original and helpful to people. Don’t make articles just to suck-up to search engines as some people do. If you have local content farming websites, try to look at which keywords: you could grab from them when the Panda update is implemented in your country.

In the end, SEO is a zero-sum game. If the content farms are getting a kick off the SERPs, then the content producers get to rank higher. Take this opportunity to do so.
